Nicaragua and the two

autonomous regions

Nicaragua is one of the poorest countries in Latin America, and the Eastern Caribbean coast is the most isolated part of the country.

Access to effective healthcare is a significant issue facing the six ethnic groups living in the politically autonomous Eastern regions - which include the famous Mosquito Coast. The idea of using a hovercraft to improve access was first explored in 1995 with a successful hovercraft expedition. Subsequent work in Nicaragua by the Peace and Hope Trust has continued ever since.

The Hovercare project aims to work with existing health services and NGOs, to extend the provision of primary and emergency healthcare to isolated communities.

We think hovercraft could make a real difference.
