The Mad Medical Safari

Madagascar on Wikipedia

HoverAid and Mission Aviation Fellowship will be working together in Madagascar on a new project we’re calling the Mad Medical Safari.

Last year we concentrated on the Mangoky River, taking medical teams to remote village communities along its length and up the tributaries.

This year we are expanding the hovercraft service into the Manombolo River system, an even more remote area, and providing the Mad Medical Safari with base camp facilities in two further locations away from rivers, which MAF will access by plane: four areas in total.

Each area will be visited by a medical team at least once every six weeks for a period of up to a week, enabling continuity of patient care for the first time for communities which currently have practically no access to doctors. The surgeons from Africa Inland Mission are building on what we did last year with several more trips to Beroroha planned, and we hope to get doctors from Europe involved too.
