Unloading aid supplied by our partner World Vision in Mozambique

HoverAid seeks to provide access for relief and devlopment organisations into geographical areas normally considered too difficult to reach. Whilst it is good that money donated to such NGOs is spent in the most effective way, there is a problem if that means that those who cost more to access are always considered last.

Often if a village cannot be reached by 4x4 vehicle in a day or two it is considered too difficult to get to, especially if the wear and tear to the vehicle is likely to be excessive. Many government extension services in developing countries will only get a new vehicle every five or six years at best - so they cannot budget for regular trips that may seriously risk their only means of transport.

Similarly development NGOs often have to seek the most cost effective way of using donated resources. That may mean going to villages that are simpler to access - after all the needs are great everywhere and by being cost efficient the maximum number of people are helped.

Unfortunately this means that the more remote populations can be systematically overlooked.

You can join with us in urging the larger development organisations to follow HoverAid's lead and develop their own expertise in utilising hovercraft to access remote communities. We don't want a monopoly on hovercraft - we want to see them used wherever they can make a significant difference.
